Wednesday was supposed to be the day Luka Pavićević returned to Podgorica, but nothing will come of it.
The former player and coach of Buducnost Voli and the head coach of Montenegro was fired by Panionios three days before the match with our Eurocup champion, so the Greek club in the capital of Montenegro will be led by the temporary tandem of Chris Hugaz and Nikos Karayannis.
It was expected in recent days that it would be Gianmarco Poceco, but an agreement with the previous Italian coach was not reached, so a well-known name came to the fore when it comes to Buducnost.
According to Greek media, the club from one of the suburbs of Athens' first choice is Aleksandar Džikić, the coach who brought the ABA League trophy to Podgorica in 2018.
"We had an agreement with Pocek, but he changed his mind. We can't dwell on it, we're moving on to sign an even better coach," club president and CEO Todoris Mikropoulos told ERT television.
With Pavićević at the helm, Panionis defeated Chemnitz in the Eurocup after extra time at the start of the season, only to record all defeats after that - a total of five in domestic and European competitions.
The match against Buducnost in Morača on Wednesday starts at 19 pm.
