The club, which was founded in 2001, the year when the powerful Buducnost completed a hat-trick of titles in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, welcomed the Montenegrin champion for the first time almost a quarter of a century later. And despite being far from the class of the team from Podgorica, it "sold its skin dearly".
The basketball players of Buducnost Voli did not allow a surprise against Vienna away, with unnecessary relaxation in the finish, the "blue and white" were safe in the 4th round of the AdmiralBet ABA League - 83:78.
In a match in which they did not allow their rival to drop below minus six until the very end, Andrej Žakelj's team rejected all attempts by the home team (the last one at 73:70) and in the end routinely recorded another triumph.
Buducnost has thus tied three victories in all competitions, and when it comes to ABA, the only failure remains from the start of the season against Spartak in "Morača".
Regardless of the occasional "empty run" during the first half, the Podgorica team completely controlled that period of the game, had a big advantage, and knew how to repel every attack by the hosts.
With a three-pointer by Juvan Morgan, Andrej Žakelj's team completed a 10:0 run and took an 18:7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Soon after Oleksandr Kovliar's throw, they were up 32:18, but they also quickly brought their rivals back into the game.
With an 8:0 run, Vienna reduced the deficit to 32:26, and a little later came close to minus six again (42:36), but Buducnost closed the second quarter without any problems - with an offensive rebound by Nikola Tanaskovic and points for 47:38.
A similar picture was seen in the third period, with Rašid Sulajmon's three-pointer (52:42) and Nikola Tanasković's attractive dunk (58:47) leading Buducnost to a double-digit lead, while Vienna remained persistent.
He managed to get close to minus six again several times, but Buducnost always had an answer - at the end of the quarter with dunks by James Thompson, while a three-pointer by Sulajmon put an end to that period (68:58).
Thompson continued to "dunk" the basket in the "Halman Dom", it seemed that Tanasković and his teammates would close the match much earlier, but Vienna did not give up and with four minutes left, it was never closer - 70:73.
On the wings of Axel Butej and Jerry Frank Butsiel, our representative once again had a solution and fully deservedly recorded another triumph in the regional competition.
Budućnost's next match is away - on Wednesday against Litkabelis in the Eurocup. After that, they have two games at "Morača" (Zadar and Besiktas), and then the first big derby with Red Star Belgrade.
