Spartak basketball players defeated Red Star Belgrade 85:80 (22:22, 19:25, 20:18, 24:15) tonight in Subotica, in the fifth round match of Group B of the AdmiralBet ABA League.
The most efficient player in the Spartak team was Montenegrin basketball player Danilo Nikolić with 21 points, along with seven rebounds, Olivier Henlan scored 16 points, with four assists, and Shevon Thompson added 14 points, with nine steals. Montenegrin basketball player Igor Drobnjak finished the match with eight points and three rebounds.
For the Red Star team, Jared Butler was the best player with 16 points, Jago Dos Santos added 11 points and eight assists, while Ebuka Izunda (six rebounds) and Stefan Miljenović each scored 10 points.
Spartak led 20:15 at the end of the first quarter, but Red Star managed to tie the score (22:22) by the end of that period.
During the second and third quarters, Red Star did not let go of the lead, and had a double-digit lead for the first time in the middle of the third quarter after free throws by Ognjen Dobrić (57:46).
Spartak came close to minus four on several occasions, but in the last two minutes, Luka Cerovina and Nikolić made back-to-back three-pointers to take the lead 79:77.
The home team then extended the run to 9:0 and, with a basket and a foul by Henlan, reached plus five (82:77).
Red Star responded in the next attack with a three-pointer by Butler, while Spartak confirmed the victory with a three-pointer by Igor Drobnjak 12 seconds before the end.
After four matches played, Spartak has the maximum performance in Group B, while Red Star has a score of 2/2.
Red Star ended its streak of eight consecutive wins in all competitions, and coach Saša Obradović suffered his first defeat since returning to the "red and white" bench.
In the next round of the ABA League, Spartak will host Ilirija, while Red Star will host Buducnost.
