In announcing the match against Ulm, Budućnost Voli coach Andrej Žakelj emphasized that a victory would take his team to where they want to be - to the top of the table.
And the "blues" clearly showed tonight what their desires and ambitions are in the European competition - in the eighth round of the Eurocup, in the "Mtel Morača Hall", Buducnost outclassed Ulm, celebrated (101:71), recorded the most convincing victory of this season, and the ninth in the last 10 games in all competitions and remained at the top of Group B. The Montenegrin champion has a score of 6-2 before the clash with Burg, which is scheduled after the international break. It will be a duel for first place.
After a seven-point run, the "blues" took a 12:7 lead at the start, with Rashid Sulajmon scoring half of those 12 points. Ulm tied the game (12:12), took the lead (15:14) after a point from Tobias Jensen, and the finish of the first quarter belonged to Andrej Jacquel's team - Rashid Sulajmon and Skylar Mays scored two points, each made an additional free throw, and the scoreboard at the end of the first quarter read 26:21 in favor of Buducnost.
Ulm hit five three-pointers out of eight attempts in the first quarter, Buducnost only shot for three once and was inaccurate, but the second quarter was opened with a three-pointer by Fletcher Magee (29:21). Ulm kept the lead thanks to Malik Osborn and good shooting percentages, but Buducnost was also very good in attack, so after Zoran Nikolić's points it was plus nine (33:24 and 35:26), and after Aksel Butej's three-pointer, the "blues" had a double-digit lead for the first time - 42:30.
In the second half of the second quarter, Yogi Ferel returned to the court after his injury, and on the wings of Rashid Sulajmon, the "blues" were again up 12 - 53:41 entering the last minute of the first half.
Buducnost shot six of nine three-pointers in the second quarter, and Đorđije Jovanović opened the second half with a three-pointer - 56:44.
Then came a furious game by the "blues", and the guests stopped shooting - Buducnost made a 23:3 run in the third quarter, took a 79:49 lead and settled the question of the winner.
By the end of the match, the goal was to exceed the 100-point mark, and in the end, Ferrell did it in the last second for a final score of 101:71.
Sulajmon was the most efficient tonight with 19 points, Kovlijar played his best match in the Buducnost jersey and scored 13 points, while Nikola Tanaskovic, Mays and Ferrell had 11 each.
For Ulm, Jensen (15) and Osborn (14) were in double figures.
