Two greats of European basketball - Željko Obradović and Ettore Messina - left the clubs they led in the Euroleague this season just a few days apart.
They are no longer on the bench of Partizan and Olimpia Milano, this detail was commented on by Bayern coach Gordon Herbert after his team was defeated last night in the Belgrade Arena in the 14th round of the Euroleague.
The Bavarians lost 92:85 in a match in which the "black and white" fans openly sided with Obradović, while booing the players.
"I wrote to Željko a few days ago. It was all strange considering the situation, but our focus was only on how to play as well as possible," said Herbert.
He added:
"Željko was a role model for many coaches and this is a sad situation for European basketball. Seeing both Željko Obradović and Ettore Messina leave basketball in the same week - it's sad," Herbert pointed out.
