Instead of the best European coach, a basketball expert who was recently fired from Barcelona will be arriving.
According to Serbian media, the new coach of Partizan is Gioan Peñaroja, a 56-year-old strategist from Catalonia. He replaces Željko Obradović, who resigned.
"Djoan Peñaroja will sit on the Partizan bench for the next year and a half, sources well-informed about the situation in Humska have confirmed to us," writes "Meridian Sport".
The new head coach of the "black and whites" took over Barça in the summer of 2024, but during his first season he did not achieve significant results, as he finished in the quarterfinals of the Euroleague, the Spanish Championship and the Cup.
The start of the second season was even more disastrous, and on November 9th, after a 2-4 finish in the Endesa League and a 5-4 finish in the Euroleague, he was fired.
He also has Euroleague experience from Baskonia and Valencia, and his greatest successes were with Burgos, which he led to two FIBA Champions League victories (2020, 2021) and the FIBA Intercontinental Cup title.
Partizan was led by Mirko Ocokoljić between Obradović and Peñaroja and recorded two wins in two matches.
