Gordie Herbert is no longer the coach of Bayern's basketball team, the Bavarian club announced on its website.
Bayern Munich and the coach mutually agreed to end their cooperation, and the 66-year-old Canadian coach took over the club in the summer of 2024.
The team has lost eight consecutive games in the Euroleague and is in 18th place with five wins and 12 losses.
"Gordi played a key role in increasing interest in basketball in Munich, but sometimes in sports, change is necessary. Injuries after EuroBasket and during the season, a demanding schedule and personal health problems - Gordi is not to blame for all of this. However, we are at a crossroads and we must put the interests of the club first," they explained on the Bayern website.
Sports director Dragan Tarlać commented after the coach was fired:
"With more than half the season ahead of us, we believe in our team and hope that a new perspective will help rekindle the fire."
Herbert is the third trophy-winning coach of the Euroleague season who is no longer at the helm. First, Milan parted ways with Ettore Messina and then Partizan parted ways with Željko Obradović.
