There are 20 teams in the Euroleague as of this season, more games are played, the pace is strenuous, and that doesn't suit all teams.
And it was precisely the strenuous rhythm and large number of games that Fenerbahçe coach Sarunas Jasikevicius spoke about after last night's victory over Barcelona in the 18th round (72:71).
"In European basketball and basketball in general, we can't play five games in nine days, and during the season there are four such sequences. Players are simply 'done' in certain situations, in mind and body, they are at the peak of exhaustion," Jasikevičius was sharp.
The coach of the European champion points out that this way the competition destroys the players.
"On the one hand, we understand why we're doing this, with 20 teams. On the other hand, we're destroying players. So, obviously something has to be done."
The Lithuanian spoke about the health condition of his team.
"Scotty Wilbekin has been to the doctor. We'll see if he can get on the court soon and start some basketball work. Mikael Jantunen probably needs a few more days. I think Bitim will probably be out for at least two weeks," concluded Jasikevicius.
