SC Derbi's last triumph in the AdmiralBet ABA League was on October 30th of last year, when they defeated Krka at home (80:75). Since then, Petar Mijović's team has suffered eight losses, the last one last night at home to Partizan (78:66).
SC Derbi has only two wins, the fewest of all teams in the regional competition, counting both groups.
"There were periods of good play. When it comes down to five, six or seven basketball players, it looks like something, but when we 'stretch' a little, which we have to do, because we can't burden some players with playing 40 minutes, then declines are inevitable regardless of whether it's the Euroleague team Partizan or a team of lower quality. Objectively, that's how it is," said SC Derbi coach Petar Mijović after the match with Partizan.
Mijović points out that the team lacks the quality for this level of competition.
"We'll see what happens next. I'm not one of those who shift responsibility to anyone. I was clear at the previous press conference, in general, with my decisions throughout my career I have shown that I have sometimes unjustifiably put myself in the forefront as the one most responsible for bad results, but this season SC Derby has an absolutely visible lack of quality for this level of competition."
The team, says Mijović, needs reinforcements.
"We are missing a player under the basket, a player or two on the outside line with creative abilities... We are having a hard time scoring points, developing the game. Some types of rival defenses expose all our shortcomings. We are going around in circles and we simply need to find a model to get out of this. I expect that this will be done with a significantly strengthened roster in the coming period," emphasized the coach of the "students".
"Students" have to play continuously for all 40 minutes, explains Mijović.
"We played well for a while in Dubai, and we played well in Cluj too. We 'swing', but when we have to play well against teams of similar quality as us, we have problems. I don't believe in some good minutes like 'We played a good quarter, we played a good half'. Is that a model – of course not. We have to play consistently for 40 minutes."
He points out that SC Derby is easy to scout and analyze.
"90 percent of teams play the same against us, because they know that at the moment we have a hard time dealing with some situations. Kudos to some of the guys, they give their all, often in both directions. However, we have few players who are ready to give 130 percent of their abilities in the situation we are in in order to rise."
SC Derbi will play away games against Igokea and Split until the end of the competition in Group A, and will host FMP.
"There's still a lot to play for. We have elimination matches coming up, away games."je Split, a match with FMP in 'Morača', then a new group of 10 matches. However, everything can be played indefinitely if we don't strengthen. The fact is that we have to strengthen the roster”, concluded Mijović.
