Partizan basketball players heroically achieved a victory in the Euroleague tonight over first-place Hapoel Tel Aviv.
The black and whites played as hosts in Munich and after overtime defeated Hapoel 104:101 (17:27, 18:29, 28:17, 25:15, 16:13), in the 24th round of the Euroleague.
Partizan achieved one of the biggest turnarounds in the Euroleague, as they were trailing by as much as 27 points at the start of the third quarter.
The biggest upset in the Euroleague remains Montepaschi's away win against Prokom in the 2012/13 season, after they were losing by 28 points.
The most efficient player on the winning team was Cameron Payne with 19 points, Arijan Lakić scored 15 points, with eight rebounds, and Bruno Fernando added one less point, with seven steals.
Hapoel's top scorer Elijah Bryant did not play due to injury, and the best performance was by Daniel Oturu with 24 points, Serbian basketball player Vasilije Micić scored 19 points, nine assists and four rebounds, while Chris Jones scored 16 points, with four rebounds and four assists.
The score was 35:56 at the break, and in the third period Partizan managed to reduce the difference to minus 10 (63:73).
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Partizan further reduced the deficit to just five points (68:73), after trailing by 27 points at the beginning of the third quarter.
Partizan continued its good play in the fourth quarter, when it tied the game (88:88) with a 7:0 run in the final quarter.
The final minutes saw a controversial refereeing decision, when a basket by Hapoel player Chris Jones was first awarded with one second left. After reviewing the video, the referees changed the decision and confirmed that Partizan center Bruno Fernando had correctly blocked Jones' shot.
Partizan had a shot for victory in the last attack in the regular 40 minutes, but Isak Bonga was inaccurate from distance.
The match went into overtime, and after a minute and a half of play in the additional period, Partizan led after a three-pointer by Lakić (91:90).
Partizan's 6:0 run followed, thanks primarily to Sterling Brown, who scored four points.
At the end of overtime, Jones was fouled on a three-point shot, and then the Hapoel basketball player was accurate all three times to reduce the difference to just minus one (102:101).
Partizan had an attack with 8,2 seconds left, Hapoel decided to foul Braun, and the Partizan player was accurate from the free throw line.
In the last attack, Antonio Blakeney missed a three-pointer to send the team into the second overtime period.
Hapoel remains in first place in the Euroleague with 16 wins and seven losses, while Partizan is 17th with eight wins and 16 losses.
In the next round, Partizan will play away to Milan, while Hapoel will host Bayern.
