SC Derby basketball players suffered their 12th defeat in the ABA League this season.
They lost in Split 102:94 after overtime and definitely missed a good chance to take a step towards survival, despite only having the advantage once in Dalmatia.
Minus 19 in the second quarter, 16 points behind in the third - for a long time it seemed that the "students" were sliding into a convincing defeat, but with an excellent performance in the final period, they came into a situation where they were dreaming of a major turnaround.
In the end, they failed, Split defended their home field after 45 minutes of fighting...
Derby shot 10-1 three-pointers in the first half (the 11th shot was converted into points by Mateo Drežnjak eight seconds before the end of the second quarter), and from the middle of the third quarter, Petar Mijović's team finally played the way they wanted.
Aleksa Ilić dominated Split's scoring, Matic Rebec and Darius Johnson also contributed, and the Podgorica team took the lead for the first time with three minutes left when Johnson hit a three-pointer for 80:79.
Split fought back and took an 85:80 lead, but Derby concluded the regular season with a 5:0 run (all points by Ilić) and secured overtime.
It seemed like no rival was ready to settle the match, and in the end, Dino Repesa's team did it for their fourth triumph of the season - they have one more than SC Derby.
Ilić had 31 points and 11 rebounds, Johnson 16 points, Rebec 12, and Drežnjak 11, while Antonio Jordano stood out for Split with 32 goals - he shot 13-7 three-pointers.
