Trento's setback was expected, and Wednesday brought doubly good news - the defeat of the Italian team, but also the failure of Turk Telekom in the Turkish derby with Besiktas.
All of this means that the Buducnost Voli basketball players hold the number three position before the final round of the Eurocup, the one that provides the home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, but also an easier rival.
Now it's up to Andrej Žakelj's men to defeat Burg in "Morača" at the end of the group stage, so they will have one match in the same hall - probably against Cluj - to qualify for the quarterfinals.
Trento, who were better in head-to-head after losing to Chemnitz in Germany (81:67), has a weaker record (10-7) than Buducnost (11-6), while Turk Telekom has an identical record to the "blue and white", but the Podgorica team is better in head-to-head. The team from Ankara was defeated by Besiktas 91:81 in the penultimate round.
In a "crazy" outcome, Buducnost could reach second place, but for that to happen, Burg would need to be defeated by London Lions tonight, and then in the last round, Turk Telekom would lose to Chemnitz at home, and the Podgorica team would defeat the French representative by more than 15 points.
At the same time, the "blue and white" know that a defeat against Burg could spoil everything, because in that case, along with the victories of Turk Telekom (over Kemnica) and Trento (against Ulm), the Montenegrin team would fall to fifth place and be left without the home field advantage.
Buducnost basketball players now have a mini break until Monday and the Admiralbet ABA League derby with Red Star, and then just two days later the match of the season against Burgas arrives.
Since first place in the ABA League was secured earlier, it is clear which match will be the priority for Žakelj and his team.
