There is increasing talk about the NBA Europe project, the plan is to launch a new competition in 2027, and Los Angeles Lakers basketball player and NBA superstar Luka Dončić could play a role in that.
According to the Italian "Gazzetta", the Slovenian national team player could play a role in the new project together with former Dallas general manager Don Nelson.
"Gazzetta" writes that Nelson is close to heading the group that will take care of the Rome franchise. The club from Rome could buy the rights of Cremona and enter the Italian league in the 2026/27 season.
Discussions about this have already begun, and the new club would use the "PalaEUR" stadium, which holds over 11 spectators.
The project would be supported by Luka Dončić, and he and Nelson have had a good relationship for a long time.
Nelson drafted the Slovenian in 2018, while last summer he was an advisor to the Slovenian national team, for which Luka played at EuroBasket. There were also rumors that Dirk Nowitzki would participate in the Rome franchise, but this was denied.
At the beginning of the year, the Italian "Il Tempo" wrote that former Partizan director Zoran Savić was involved in the story surrounding the team in Rome.
