At the opening of the Top 8 phase of the AdmiralBet ABA League, the basketball players of Buducnost Voli were defeated by Partizan 98:82 last night, which is their fourth defeat in the regional competition, and they fell to fourth place in the group.
After losing to Red Star (93:80), the "blues" lost to another Euroleague team. During the match, the Montenegrin champion's defense was not good, which Partizan took advantage of and punished, so at one point, after a point by Bruno Fernando, it was a big 79:55.
"Partizan played the 1st and 3rd quarters on a level and that was enough for the win. We started too slowly, we were not as defensive as we wanted to be from the first minute. In the end we tried to play more aggressively, but it was too late, because Partizan controlled the game," emphasized Budućnost coach Andrej Žakelj.
Partizan shot well, at one point it was 15/23 from three points, and then the "black and whites" missed 10 in a row, before Sterling Brown hit his 16th three-pointer.
"We allowed too many open shots with very good percentages, and it's hard to win a game when your opponent shoots like that. It's all because we were too weak in defense. We have to turn the page and move on, because the national Cup awaits us," concluded the Buducnost coach.
Partizan coach Gioan Peñaroja emphasized that his team had achieved an important victory.
"Starting the Top 8 phase with a triumph against Buducnost, the leader of the second group, is a great thing for us. We played well, although we had bad moments in defense and with the flow of the ball, but we controlled the rhythm and the entire flow of the game," said Peñaroja.
