David Mirković played an excellent game last night, scoring 25 points, had seven more rebounds and three assists in Illinois' victory over Indiana (71:51), and was the main topic of the press conference after the match.
Illinois coach Brad Underwood told an interesting story, and Mirković plays the main role.
"Mirković was spectacular. He is unique in every way. I will reveal to you, and to the public, an interesting thing. After I left the hall after our recent loss to Wisconsin, not even two minutes passed, and I received an incredible message from David - he took the blame, because he thought he was not the way he should have been, that he was not at his best," said Andrewwood.
Mirković had 12 points and six rebounds in Illinois' loss to Wisconsin (92:90).
"Tonight, against Indiana, he was dominant on both sides - excellent on defense. He had an excellent, experienced Tucker as his rival, who has many, many more games than David. I am very proud to coach a guy like David. He is a born winner. It is truly rare for a 20-year-old to reason so correctly and intelligently. I am impressed by him. I told this story to the team the other day. But I didn't tell them at the time who the message came from. And that is a moment of trust, building team spirit, when you have someone like that. He is a simple young man, who always cares about winning," said Underwood.
Mirković is averaging 13 points, eight rebounds and 2,5 assists this season in the NCAA League.
