The final tournament of the Montenegrin Basketball Cup in both competitions begins today in Bijelo Polje. The fight for the first trophy of the season will again involve eight teams in the men's competition and four in the women's competition, and all games will be played in the "Nikoljac" hall.
The program opens with basketball players, with quarterfinal duels on the first day of the competition, and the draw brought some interesting matches already at that stage, and then in the semifinals potentially crossed last year's finalists, Budućnost Voli and SC Derbi.
Quarter Final Pairings:
(1) Unity - Kotor (18:00)
(2) Mornar Barsko Zlato – Sutjeska Elektroprivreda (20:30)
(3) Future Loves – Lovćen (15:30)
(4) SC Derbi – Primorje (13:00)
The semifinals will feature pairs 1 and 2, and 3 and 4, and those matches will be played on Thursday, while the final is scheduled for Friday at 19 p.m.
For several years now, the Cup has brought exciting finals, and last season, Budućnost, also in Bijelo Polje, defeated SC Derbi 105:104. This season, the novelty is that there is a one-day break between the quarterfinals and semifinals, and teams can now register 16 players for the tournament, and for each match, they can individually select 12 basketball players, including foreigners whose number is limited to four per team.
In the women's competition, the semi-final pairs, which will be played on Wednesday, are Budućnost Bemax – Primorje and Podgorica – Sea Stars. The final is scheduled for Thursday at 20:30.
In women's basketball, according to the regulations, the final tournament of the Cup will be attended by the four best-placed teams in the championship after the seventh round. Three of this year's four participants played in the finals last year, and the Sea Stars team from Tivat is appearing for the first time. The title is being defended by the women's basketball team Budućnost Bemaxa, who defeated Trebjesa from Nikšić 95:40 in the final last year, also in the "Nikoljac" hall.
