With a victory against Vukovi Zeta (86:79) in the 20th round of the First Montenegrin League, Podgorica Bemax basketball players confirmed their good form, as they recorded their fourth win in a row, and their fifth in the last six matches in the domestic championship.
Miodrag Kadija's team enters the break in the championship - due to the Montenegrin Cup, and then the FIBA "window" - with a record of 10 wins and 10 losses. Podgorica achieved a significant break against Vukovi, confirmed its good form and goes into the break in great spirits.
"We have tied four wins and we must be satisfied, because since the beginning of the season the team has been playing with great oscillations, which is not a surprise considering that the team is made up of extremely young players," said Mašan Vrbica, the playmaker of Podgorica Bemax, at the beginning of the interview for the club's website.
After recording a triumph against Radnički from Kragujevac in the ABA2 league, Podgorica "turned around" the season - they defeated Kotor, then lost to Sutjeska after extra time, and then started winning important matches against teams from the lower part of the table (Danilovgrad, Ulcinj, Ibar and Vukovi Zeta).
"The game definitely looks much better now and with these victories the team is gaining additional confidence, which is needed for matches that are decided in the last few minutes. We have lost many games this season in the final stages, where it was decided by literally one ball, and that is certainly the reason why we are not currently ranked better in both competitions," explained Cetinjanin.
Kadija often had fewer than 10 players in training this season due to numerous personnel problems, but despite all the problems, with the arrival of Vrbica the team started to look different. After 3-7, Podgorica registered seven triumphs in the next 10 rounds…
"We are currently in a great rhythm and we regret the poor start to the season, which resulted in us not qualifying for the final tournament of the Montenegrin Cup," commented Vrbica.
Vrbica strengthened Podgorica during the season, then was out for a while due to injury, and when he returned he showed why he is the team's leader. Adaptation was not a problem, as he had previously worked with coach Miodrag Kadija.
"The decision to sign for Podgorica Bemax was for several reasons and we easily reached an agreement. The adaptation was quite easy considering that I know the system of coach Kadija well, with whom I have already collaborated on a few occasions and I hope that I have managed to bring in these three months what everyone expected of me and that it will continue like this until the end. What is most important is that the team wins," Vrbica is clear.
Podgorica Bemax will not play in the Cup final tournament, so the team will take a break. The next match is on March 3rd at home against Helios, and four days later, Teodo will arrive at the "Bemax Arena", as part of the domestic championship.
"We will certainly use this break to be even better and to prepare for what awaits us until the end. There are still seven rounds left, I think we have a pretty good schedule with five games that we will play in our hall. I know it will be difficult, but I believe we can grab the last position leading to the playoffs," Vrbica concluded his interview with the club's website.
