American playmaker and one of the best players of the Future Volley, Yogi Ferrell, received a Montenegrin passport and could play for our national team in the future.
As reported by RTCG, the 32-year-old playmaker should be in the competition for the Montenegrin national team jersey starting this summer.
That's exactly how long it will take to complete the entire administrative process.
Ferel has been playing for Buducnost for the third season, and in the final tournament of the Montenegrin Cup, which is being played in Bijelo Polje, he is still playing as a foreigner.
Andrej Žakelj, the coach of Montenegro, together with Zvezdan Mitrović (who will take over the selection in July), will announce the list for the February qualifying "window" and the two-match match with Greece in the coming days, and Kendirk Perry, the playmaker of Unicaja Malaga, will still be on it as a naturalized foreigner.
Ferrell arrived in Podgorica as a player with considerable NBA and European experience. After four years playing for the Indiana University basketball program, he found himself in the NBA league.
First in Brooklyn, then in Dallas, where he played his best games and where he averaged 10,5 points and 3,5 assists for two years as the leader of the second team. His great game against Portland (108:104) when he scored 32 points is also remembered. He was only the third undrafted player in history to score 30+ points in his first 15 games.
After Dallas, he played for Sacramento, Cleveland, Los Angeles Clippers, and in Europe for Panathinaikos and Cedevita Olimpija. Before joining Buducnost, he played in China, for the Shanghai Sharks.
Ferel is the best player for Buducnost this season. In the Eurocup, in the group stage, he has an average utility index of 16,7 and is the team's leading scorer with an average of 12,9 points per game, with 4,1 assists. In the ABA League, he averages 13,3 points and 3,8 assists.
