Slovenian national basketball team coach Aleksandar Sekulić was appointed as the new coach of Dubai today.
The 48-year-old Slovenian coach will make his debut on the Dubai bench on Friday in the final game of the regular season in the Euroleague against Valencia, according to the club's website.
He replaced Jurica Golemac, who amicably terminated his contract with the club last weekend.
Sekulić has been the national coach of Slovenia since 2020, leading the team to fourth place at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. As an assistant coach on the coaching staff, he led the national team to the gold medal at the 2017 European Championships.
Among other things, he led the clubs Zenit, Lokomotiva Kubanje, Nimbruck and Krk.
Heading into the final round, Dubai sits in 11th place in the Euroleague standings with 19 wins and 18 losses, while Barcelona, which is in 10th place, the lowest position that carries a play-in spot, has 20 wins and 17 losses, with a worse head-to-head record than the club from the United Arab Emirates.
Dubai is at the top of the ABA League table, with 19 wins and three losses and a game less than Partizan, who has 20/3.
