The Euroleague Basketball Board of Directors adopted a decision at a meeting in Barcelona that 20 teams will compete in this competition next season, with the intention of expanding the league in the near future.

"The clubs have also reviewed recommendations for improving travel and health conditions presented by the EuroLeague Players Association (ELPA) and will consider potential implementation at both the league-wide and individual club level," the EuroLeague said in a statement.

The Euroleague announced that the clubs supported the initial research regarding the formation of a new competition, which would bring together the champions of the Euroleague and Eurocup before the start of the season.

The first research for the expansion of the Euroleague will begin in July of this year, and more than 10 clubs have expressed interest in participating.

The meeting adopted changes related to the economic distribution among the clubs. The fund related to television rights is divided into two parts. In the first, licensed clubs retain 65 percent of the net income from television rights, while the remaining 35 percent is distributed evenly among the clubs.

A total of 75 percent of the EuroLeague commercial fund will be distributed among all participants based on a combination of sporting results, fan engagement (including attendance, TV viewership and digital interaction) and historical results, while the remaining 25 percent will be distributed evenly.

Members of the Euroleague Board of Directors received reports on the transition from the existing ten-year license model to a permanent "franchise" model, which is planned to be completed by next season.

The Euroleague also stated that they are open to discussions with NBA representatives, "with the aim of exploring the possibility of a strategic partnership" in the coming years.
