The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced today that France will host the 2031 FIBA World Cup, returning the tournament to Europe after almost two decades.
The tournament will take place from 29 August to 14 September 2031, with matches being played in Lille, Lyon and Paris. The final stage of the competition will be held in the French capital.
France will thus become the first European country to host the Basketball World Cup since 2014, when Spain organized the competition.
The 2019 World Cup was held in China, while the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia hosted in 2023. The next World Cup is scheduled for 2027 in Qatar.
Meanwhile, FIBA today decided that the 2030 Women's Basketball World Cup will be held in Japan. Tokyo will host the competition from November 26 to December 8, 2030.
