Los Angeles Lakers basketball player LeBron James said today that he does not know if the loss to Oklahoma City in Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference semifinals was the last match of his career.
"I don't know what the future holds for me. I have a lot of time now. I think I said that last year after we lost to Minnesota. I'm going to talk to my family and spend some time with them, and then when the time comes, you'll know what I've decided to do," said the 41-year-old James.
The Lakers finished the season in the Western Conference semifinals, having been eliminated by Oklahoma City by a combined score of 4–0.
In the final, fourth game, the Lakers lost 115:110, and James scored 24 points and 12 rebounds in the final game of his 23rd NBA season.
The best scorer in NBA history stuck to the strategy he has adopted in recent summers after the match, refusing to talk about his future right after the last game of the season.
He did not rule out ending his career or returning to the Lakers, nor the possibility of playing his 24th season in his career with another team.
"Nobody has any idea what the future holds, not even me. I'm going to take time to rest and look back on the season and see what's best for my future. When I get to that point, everyone will know," James said.
James averaged 20,9 points this season, his lowest since his rookie season, largely due to his three-point shooting dropping to 31,7 percent, and his 33,2 minutes per game was an all-time low. He also averaged 7,2 assists and 6,1 rebounds per game.
He was selected to the All-Star Game for the 22nd time, and just before the midseason break, he became the oldest player in NBA history to record a triple-double. In late March, he surpassed Robert Parish's record for most games played in a regular season.
