Red Star basketball players have advanced to the semifinals of the ABA League playoffs, after tonight in the decisive, third game of the quarterfinal series, on their home court in Belgrade, they defeated Cedevita Olimpija 95:86 (27:15, 22:31, 17:24, 29:16).
The Belgrade red and whites won the series with an aggregate score of 2:1.
The most efficient player for the Red Star team was Jared Butler with 19 points, along with seven assists and five rebounds. Hasiel Rivero added 15 points, Jordan Nwora scored 14 points - The most efficient player for the Cedevita Olimpija team was Aleksej Nikolić with 17 points. Matthew Hurt added 16 points, David Škara recorded 12 points and six rebounds, while Serbian point guard Ognjen Jaramaz scored 11 points. The Red Star team started the game better. The Red and Whites reached a double-digit lead of 16:6 after just five and a half minutes of play, and ended the first quarter with a 27:15 lead.
The team from Ljubljana reduced Red Star's lead during the second quarter, finally tying the score with 19 seconds left in the period (46:46). The red and whites managed to go into halftime with a 49:46 lead with a three-pointer by Semij Odželej at the sound of the siren. After two minutes of play in the third period, Cedevita Olimpija's team took a 54:52 lead after a long time with a three-pointer by Aleksej Nikolić. Zvezdan Mitrović's team continued their good play in the rest of the period and ended the third quarter with a 70:66 lead.
After a minute of play in the last quarter, Red Star took a 5:0 run to take a 71:70 lead. The red and whites were better in the rest of the quarter, entering the last minute with a 93:83 lead, and ending the match with a 95:86 victory.
Red Star will play against Partizan in the semi-finals of the ABA League playoffs.
