The Dallas Mavericks confirmed last night that Jason Kidd has been fired as head coach after five seasons.
The NBA club announced it was parting ways with Kidd, describing the move as a mutual decision, which came just two weeks after the Mavericks hired Masai Ujiri as the club's new president.
"As we evaluate the future of our basketball program, we believe this is the right time for a new direction for our team. We have high expectations for this franchise and a responsibility to build a basketball organization capable of sustainable title contention," Ujiri said in a statement.
"We will conduct a thorough, disciplined search for our next coach and continue to evaluate our entire basketball operations staff to ensure we compete to the standards that Mavericks fans expect and deserve," he added.
Kidd had a 205:205 overall record with Dallas, and 22:18 in the playoffs, advancing to the 2022 Western Conference Finals and the 2024 NBA Finals.
