Montenegro's young basketball team loses to Greece on Sunday for promotion to Division A

The young women's basketball team of Montenegro (U20) was defeated by Greece 78:59 in the semi-final B of the European Championship in Samokov, Bulgaria. The team of coach Petar Stojanović has another chance to qualify for the A division, in the third-place match, which they will play against Slovakia on Sunday.

Greece entered the semifinals with all five wins in the tournament and once again played a very confident game. Our team opened well and led until the end of the first quarter (12:10), but in the last three and a half minutes of that period, Greece made an 8:0 run to turn the game around. After a fairly even second quarter, the Greeks were 37:29 at halftime. However, the opponents managed to turn the game around in the third quarter, which they won 28:14.

The most efficient player in our selection was Atina Radević with 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Sanja Akšam and Milena Vujović scored nine points each, Janja Dragišić eight, and Ljube Andrić and Marija Sekulović six points each. The Greek team had five players in double figures, led by Panajota Stoliga with 17 and Mirto Lijanoudi with 16 points.

Slovakia finished first in Group B in the first phase, after victories over Ukraine and the Czech Republic. They lost to Greece in the second phase, but previously reached the semi-finals with a triumph over Ireland. The match for third place, the winner of which will advance to Division A alongside the finalists, will be played on Sunday at 17 p.m.
