LeBron hasn't mentioned the name of his new club yet: I won't keep you in suspense for much longer

American basketball player LeBron James did not want to reveal where he will continue his career, but he hinted that his decision will be known soon.

James spoke publicly for the first time in weeks, hinting that a decision was close, although he did not reveal which team he would choose.

"I won't keep you in suspense much longer," James said.

He made two appearances on Thursday: taping an episode of his podcast "Mind the Game" with the Indiana Pacers' Tyrese Halliburton in New York on the opening day of Fanatics Fest, and later speaking at the Game Plan Summit.

At the summit, speaking on stage with Boardroom co-founder Rich Kleiman, he said that there are many layers to this decision, many of which appear to be off-the-field.

"It's not just about the team," the four-time NBA champion said.

"There are so many other factors that I'm considering right now: what suits me best as a player, what suits me best as a person, what contributes to my happiness, but also to the happiness of my family," James added.

"At Fanatics Fest, an 11-year-old in the audience asked James about his free agent status and his next team."

"First of all, that was a really tough question and some of the media people who are here should probably learn from this young guy," James said.

This boy may have gotten the best answer of the entire session, as James hinted that the 2026/27 season might not necessarily be his last as a player.

"It's a big decision, not only for me, but for my family. It's about the last part of my career and where I want to spend the last few years, or the last year, or the last two years of my NBA career..." James said.

"I'm going to try to fit into any team I go to, but also give them all the tools and all the knowledge that I've been able to gain over the last 23 years. I know the game. I know all the details of the game of basketball," he added.

James jokingly rebuked Halliburton for asking him about the future.

"Didn't we talk about this before filming," James asked, to which Halliburton replied that he would "put it aside."

Of course, they didn't leave it aside. James mentioned a number of teams like Cleveland, Miami, Philadelphia and Golden State, although he didn't seem to provide many clues.

And when fans were clamoring for suggestions for James' next team, one even asking him to play for New York - there were no hints.

"We'll see," he said.

James is the oldest active player in the NBA at 41 and the only player in league history to have a career spanning 23 seasons. Speculation about his future has been ongoing for more than two months, and officially began in May when the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated from the NBA playoffs.

At the time, James said he didn't know what he would do.

The only news he has revealed since then came on June 30, when he said he was leaving the Lakers after eight seasons and that he planned to play his 24th season in the NBA with another club.

His team and individual achievements are numerous, and last season he averaged 20,9 points, had 6,1 rebounds and 7,2 assists per game.

During his career, he averaged 26,8 points, 7,5 rebounds and 7,4 assists in more than 1.600 games.

James began his career in Cleveland in 2003 and spent seven seasons with the Cavaliers before going to Miami for four seasons, where he won his first two titles. He then returned to Cleveland for another four seasons, before moving to the Lakers in 2018.
