Montenegrin basketball player David Mirković underwent surgery on his left foot and will be out of action for a while, his club Illinois announced.
Mirković was injured in training on July 31st, requiring surgery. The surgery was ultimately successful in Indianapolis, and the Nikšić native will now undergo a period of recovery.
"I'll be back soon," Mirković wrote on social media, while Illinois has not announced when he is expected to return.
On the other hand, journalist Jeff Goodman states that Mirković will be out for six to eight weeks.
David Mirković was one of the best freshmen in the NCAA last season. He averaged 13,3 points, eight rebounds and 2,6 assists, while breaking records and making history for both Illinois and the NCAA.
With Illinois, he reached the semifinals of March Madness, where he was defeated by Yukon (71:62).
Mirković is expected to have an even bigger role this season, especially after the departure of Keaton Wagler, who was drafted fifth overall by the Los Angeles Clippers.
