Cadets beat Great Britain, will play for 5th place

The Montenegrin men's cadet basketball team won the opening round of the 5th-8th place playoff at the European U16 B Division Championship in North Macedonia. Montenegro defeated Great Britain 83:71 in Gevgelija and will play for 5th place in the championship on the final day of the tournament.

After losing to Iceland in the quarterfinals, coach Miloš Radović's team found enough energy to react in the right way, even though they entered the match a little slower. The British were the first to break away, with a 12:0 run for a 23:15 lead in the 9th minute. Our team fought back in the second quarter and, led by Radović and Knežević, came within just a point of the deficit at halftime (40:41).

The others continued to play, and Montenegro not only turned the game around in the third quarter, but also took a double-digit lead (63:52) in the 29th minute, and with four minutes left in the game, they had the maximum difference (82:61), which their rival only managed to mitigate somewhat in the final minutes.

Ilija Radović was once again the dominant player in our team with 30 points (67% field goal shooting), 12 rebounds and four assists. Miloš Knežević scored 17 points (70% field goal shooting) and had six assists. Vuk Krivokapić also scored in double figures with 12 and Martin Kastratović with 11 points.

Montenegro will play for 5th place in the championship on Saturday, with the winner of the Netherlands - Sweden match.
