Montenegrin basketball coach Dejan Radonjić received the award for the most trophy-winning coach in the ABA League last night in Ljubljana, at a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the regional competition.
Radonjić was the champion of the regional competition with Red Star in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2021 and 2022 and with five titles, he is, along with Duško Vujošević, the most trophy-winning coach in this competition. The award was also presented posthumously to Vujošević, who won the trophy with Partizan in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013.
"It's a good feeling of happiness, satisfaction and pride. A wonderful evening, the 25th year of the ABA league. I had the opportunity to play the first season. It didn't seem like everything would be the same after that. The ABA league changed a lot, the organization, the competition system, a lot of things. The ABA league is characterized by the quality of the competition, one of the best leagues in Europe. I believe that will continue to be the case," said Radonjić.
He pointed out that the ABA League has helped numerous players and fans.
"You witnessed everything that was said tonight. We all had the opportunity to be participants in this competition and league that produced a large number of players and coaches and other structures of course. It benefited all of us to do good things in our careers, it was all to our mutual satisfaction."
Radonjić spoke about a potential return to the ABA League.
"It's very difficult to say specifically now. In any case - anything is possible," concluded Dejan Radonjić.
