Sutomore is getting a senior basketball team again. KK Sutomore is returning to the senior competition this year, with the desire to create continuity in its work and provide young players with the opportunity to continue playing and developing in their area after the junior categories.
The return of the senior team is a continuation of an idea that KK Sutomore has already started. Four years ago, the club reached the title of vice-champion of the league and showed that Sutomore can have a serious senior basketball story. However, at that time, there was not enough support and conditions for that story to develop in the long term.
This time the goal is to create a more stable foundation.
BC Sutomore primarily wants to be a support for young players from Sutomore, Petrovac, Buljarica, Šušanj, Bar and surrounding towns, who have been training and competing in the younger categories for years, but after a certain age are often left without space to continue their development.
This is where the biggest problem arises. It is not enough to have children who train and have quality junior teams if there is no next step for them. When they finish the junior categories, young players must have a place to continue training, to get minutes, to experience senior basketball and to make the transition from junior to senior competition through games.
KK Sutomore wants to make this transition possible.
The idea is not for the senior team to be formed solely for the sake of results and placements, but for it to be a natural continuation of working with younger players. More experienced players and the younger generation should be part of the same story, in which talented basketball players will have the opportunity to progress through training and matches with the seniors.
This story is particularly significant because it is an area with a large number of children and young people who play sports, especially basketball. From Sutomore and Petrovac, through Buljarica and Šušanj, to Bar, there is a base of young players who need space to continue their sports journey.
That is why the ambition of KK Sutomore is not focused on just one season. The desire is to establish the senior team as a long-term project and for the club to be able to create as many players as possible in the coming years who will have the opportunity to make a breakthrough through its system.
The results will, of course, depend on the court. But the success of this project will not be measured only by wins and losses. Every young player who gets his first senior minutes, every junior who gets the opportunity to take the next step, and every child who recognizes the possibility of playing senior basketball on this team one day will also be important.
After a few years of hiatus, KK Sutomore again wants to have a senior team that will be a continuation of its work with youth and a place where basketball players from Sutomore and surrounding areas will be able to continue their development.
This is a new beginning, but with the same idea - that Sutomore has its senior basketball story again and that young players from our region have a reason to stay on the court.
