The biggest drama during the transfer window in European basketball has reached an epilogue - Thomas Walkap has left Olympiacos and will continue his career in Dubai.
"Thomas Vocap will continue his career in Dubai, after the two clubs reached an agreement," Olympiacos said in a statement.
Vocap spent five seasons in Athens, and Olympiacos thanked him for that in a farewell message.
"In the five years he played for Olympiacos, we won 12 trophies, reached five consecutive F4s and conquered Europe last May. It was a shared journey filled with successes, great moments and challenges. We hope that this beautiful journey will forever remain in the hearts and memories of all of us," said Olympiacos.
Vocap expressed his desire to leave Olympiacos for Dubai over the summer, even though he was under contract with the Athens club until the end of the upcoming season. Olympiacos opposed the player's request, seeking protection from the Euroleague due to what they claimed were unauthorized negotiations between Dubai and their contracted player.
Olympiacos owners, the Angelopoulos brothers, were ready to take Vokapo to court, but an out-of-court solution was found in the meantime. Dubai fulfilled Olympiacos' demands for the player's transfer and brought him to their ranks.
"The agreement with Dubai also represents the beginning of a closer relationship between the two clubs, based on mutual respect and Dubai's sincere commitment to the core values of the EuroLeague," Olympiacos said.
