Nikola Mirotic in the Buducnost jersey - social networks flooded in, the story spread...
What is the real truth, and in general, is there any truth in the captions that were also reported by regional media? We asked the most relevant person possible, the president of the Budućnost Voli Basketball Club, Dragan Bokan.
Did the meeting take place, and if so - what was discussed, was the possibility of returning to Podgorica on the agenda: many questions in one...
- I see that a lot of dust has been raised, I read the reactions. We really had a conversation, I had a drink with Mr. Nikola Mirotic, who is in Montenegro and trains in our development team's gym, as he does every year - Bokan tells "Vijesti".
Mirotic joined Real Madrid's youth team as a child, a teenager. One of the most illustrious careers for someone born in Montenegro followed: Real Madrid's first team, the Spanish national team and winning gold at EuroBasket 2015, the NBA and playing for the Chicago Bulls, New Orleans and Milwaukee, then returning to Europe and playing for Barcelona, Olimpia and Monaco.
Mirotic is now an experienced 35-year-old - and what does the future hold?
- I took the opportunity to talk to one of the most successful Montenegrin players. We talked about various topics - about private matters, and of course about basketball. We also talked about Nikola's future, about his career. He said that he was waiting and that he was primarily interested in the Euroleague. I would not like this statement of mine to be understood in the wrong way, but as a serious and responsible man, someone who is at the head of the largest Montenegrin club and who leads the Basketball Association of Montenegro, I told Nikola that we are always at his disposal - says Bokan.
What it means?
- If at any moment his ambitions and private affairs coincide, the doors are wide open for him - both to Buducnost, which is playing in the Eurocup, and to the Montenegrin national team. That was primarily my obligation as the president of KSCG during the conversation with someone who is from Podgorica, who is from Montenegro, and who has made such a career. And it would be a great honor for us to have Nikola Mirotic wear the Buducnost jersey - Dragan Bokan points out.
The story, therefore, does not yet have a concrete orb, but it exists.
- No details, no concrete offers, just a private conversation, a conversation about basketball and my obligation as a responsible man to tell him that we would be honored, if his ambitions and personal matters coincide, to have him be a part of Buducnost - Dragan Bokan summarizes and concludes.
