The Boxing Association of Montenegro (BSCG) announced that 2024 is the most successful year in the recent history of Montenegrin boxing.
"Along with the year 2022, when Bojana Gojković and Tamara Radunović brought Montenegro the first senior medals for women's boxing from the European Championship, this year 2024 is the most successful in the recent history of Montenegrin boxing. The complete program was implemented, the boxers performed, and very successfully at all planned tournaments and championships, and two major world competitions were successfully organized in Budva," said BSCG.
They point out that the year was marked by Tomislav Đinović above all others.
"The year was marked, first of all, by Tomislav Đinović, who won a bronze medal at the senior European championship in Belgrade, the first for Montenegro after 24 years. Before the 19-year-old member of BK Zlaticanin, Nikola Sjekloča and Milorad Gajović succeeded in this in 2000 at the European the championship in the Finnish city of Tampere. The medal in Belgrade could have been even better if Đinović had not been prevented by an injury. The decision of our fighter's medical team was to stop in the semi-finals and does not cross the gloves with the Russian Vsevolod Shumkov, due to the jaw injury he received in the quarter-final fight", BSCG announced.
Đinović was declared the best athlete in Podgorica.
"In addition to the senior bronze, Đinović also won a bronze at the European Championship under the age of 23, which was held in Sofia, and in addition to the gold medal, he was also declared the best boxer of the 61st International Tournament "Belgrade Winner". His results and successes were valued in the right way is the capital, which chose him as the best athlete of Podgorica, and we believe that it will be the same at the state level, that is, in the selection of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee and the Association of Sports Journalists Montenegro."
They point out that the successful year of Montenegrin boxing was completed by Bojana Gojković winning a silver medal at the European Under-23 Championship in Bulgaria and participating in the Olympic Games in Paris, Nikola Raičević winning bronze at the European Schoolboy Championship in Banja Luka, champion in the junior competition, Matija Roganović and silver in youth age, his brother Miloš at the Balkan Championship in Loznica, as well as younger schoolchildren and juniors who won medals at tournaments in Hungary (Eger Cup), Greece (Tiger Cup), Belgrade (Cup of Nations), Croatia (Zagreb Open), Sarajevo (Mustafa Hajrulanović Italian Tournament)...
"Obviously, boxing in Montenegro has been on the rise in recent years, both competitively and organizationally, which is confirmed by the successful organization of two major world competitions this year - the Youth World Cup in March at the "Splendid" hotel in Bečići, with the participation representatives of 21 countries and the World Youth Championship at the end of October and the beginning of November in Budva, where competitors from as many as 76 countries of the world performed. A year for pride, memory and respect", said from Boxing Association of Montenegro.
