Gold, silver and bronze in individual kata at the Balkan Senior Championship were won by Montenegrin karatekas on the first day of the competition in Budva.

And the Montenegrin final, of course, went to the leader of the trophy kata team of Montenegro and karateka from Bar, Vladimir Mijač, who was better than his national team and club friend Kenan Nikočević.

Their club and national team colleague, Benjamin Aljošević, made an effort to completely dominate in that discipline, winning a bronze medal in his debut appearance in the senior competition.

Another debutant won a medal, a gold one. Balša Vojinović, in the 60 kg category, won the title of senior Balkan champion after four outstanding matches.

Jovana Stojanović had less sporting luck, as she withdrew from the final due to injury, and despite her outstanding efforts today, she had to settle for a silver medal.

Milena Jovanović also had a successful day in the +68 kilogram category, reaching the final and winning Balkan silver with excellent performances.

In the overall standings, after the first day of competition, Montenegro ranks second.

Montenegrin karate fighters are defending their title of the best team in the Balkans, and tomorrow they are scheduled to fight in higher weight categories.
