Montenegrin boxer Strahinja Mrdak won gold, while Matija Roganović finished his performance at the Heydar Aliyev International Tournament in Baku with a silver medal.
Mrdak defeated talented Kazakh Edige Hurgohz in the final of the 50-kilogram category.
The match was extremely uncertain, but the Bjelopoljac, who plays for BK Budva, dominated in key rounds and deservedly achieved victory.
"He showed superb technique, fighting spirit, determination and composure in the decisive moments of the fight. Throughout the tournament, he left a great impression, recording impressive victories over opponents from strong and recognized boxing countries, thus confirming his status as one of the most promising young boxers on the regional and international scene," the Boxing Federation said in a statement.
Mrdak is on his way to the finals, having eliminated Georgian Dimitri Beraj in the round of 16, then Uzbekistan's Zhavokhir Govmidinov in the quarterfinals and Russian boxer Mikhail Sharipov in the semifinals.
Roganović failed to win in the final of the 80 kg category, but he showed exceptional fighting spirit, technical maturity and a big heart.
The member of BK Nikšić faced one of the most talented young boxers of today - Russian Astemir Karaev - in the fight for gold.
The fight was intense from the very beginning.
Karaev used his speed and precise strikes, but Roganović responded with a sure guard, counterstrikes, and tactical discipline.
As the fight progressed, Karaev increased the pace, but Roganović did not back down - on the contrary, he fought back with combinations that showed his physical fitness and mental strength.
"Although the judges ultimately awarded the victory to the Russian boxer, Roganović emerged from the match with his head held high, garnering the sympathy of the audience and the respect of experts. And his performance throughout the tournament in Baku was impressive," the statement said.
In Baku, Roganović eliminated Kazakhstan's Adil Medelkahanan in the round of 16, Azerbaijan's Elvin Ahmadli in the quarterfinals, and Uzbekistan's Umarjov Nazarov in the semifinals.
"With their performances in Baku, Mrdak and Roganović once again confirmed that they belong to the very top of the world stage and that great successes await them in the future. In addition to the boxers' successful performance, Montenegrin boxing in Baku was also successfully represented by international referee Blažo Jabučanin, who dispensed justice in all phases of the tournament, including the final," the Boxing Federation announced.
