The Montenegrin boxing team had four representatives at the European Junior Championships, and secured two medals in Germany.
The great success of Montenegrin boxers at the European Junior Championships is due to Nikola Raičević and Matija Roganović, who won in the quarter-final fights and thus secured at least bronze medals for Montenegro.
In the 50 kg category, Raičević defeated Greek boxer Dimostenis Zikos by a 4:1 decision. In the first round, the judges gave the advantage to the Greek boxer (3:2), while in the next two, Raičević showed great boxing and, with a fight full of discipline, courage and technical maturity, showed that Montenegro has a bright future in this sport.
Raičević will meet Turkey's Berat Ahduman in the semifinals.
Matija Roganović boxed even more convincingly, as he simply “blasted” Israeli Georg Asaf, the former vice-champion of Europe for schoolchildren, in the 80 kg category. He was also an Israeli in the knockdown, so a victory with the maximum score is an expected and realistic outcome. Roganović's rival on the way to the final will be Ukrainian Dmytro Kasianenko, who eliminated Latvian Vladislavs Ustinovs in the quarterfinals.
"We are proud of the performances of our competitors. Raičević and Roganović showed exceptional maturity, discipline and fighting spirit. Nikola demonstrated calmness and a tremendous fighting spirit, which brought results. The victory over a strong opponent and the secured medal at the European Championship are confirmation that dedicated work and faith in the process always pay off," said coach Nikola Ružić, and then reflected on Roganović's success.
"Matija demonstrated complete dominance in the fight for the medal and once again confirmed that Montenegro has a bright future in this sport. These are the results of long and dedicated work, both by the athletes and the coaching staff. These medals are a great incentive for the further development of the junior national team and proof that we are on the right path," believes coach Ružić.
