The traditional international Independence Day judo tournament will be held tomorrow in Podgorica, and will bring together more than 600 competitors from the region, who will compete for medals in age categories from juniors to cadets, announced the organizer, the "Nenad Sinanović" Judo Club.
It was announced that Podgorica will once again be the center of one of the most important sporting events for younger age groups in the region.
"The presence of Nemanja Majdov, world champion and European vice-champion, one of the most successful judokas from this region, who will enhance the event with his presence and provide additional motivation to young athletes, gives this year's tournament special weight and significance," the statement reads.
It is stated that, in addition to a large number of domestic and foreign competitors, the presence of numerous sports workers, representatives of institutions, businessmen and friends of sports has been announced, confirming that the tournament has outgrown the framework of a classic sports competition and has become a recognizable international sports event.
"The tournament is included in the official calendar of the Judo Federation of Montenegro. Its main goal is to promote sports, healthy lifestyles, socializing among young people and affirming true sporting values, but also to create the foundation for the tournament to grow into an even more significant regional and internationally recognized sporting event in the future. Given the fact that the number of participants, participating countries and the quality of the organization itself is increasing year by year, the organizers believe that in the coming years the tournament will take a special place on the international judo scene of the region," the statement reads.
The opening ceremony of the tournament in the hall of the "Slobodan Škerović" High School is planned for ten o'clock, while the competition will begin 15 minutes later.
"The Nenad Sinanović Judo Club continues to raise the level of tournament organization year after year, with the clear goal of Podgorica and Montenegro being recognized as important centers for the development of judo in the region," the club announced.
