Stefan Savić lost his place in the first team of Atlético, after the defeat by Real in the city derby.
The last two games, against PSV and Osasuna, were played by Jose Maria Jimenez, in tandem with undisputed compatriot Diego Godin.
And "Kolćoneros" did not concede a goal in both matches.
Atlético hosts the lower league side Guihuela tomorrow in the Spanish Cup, it is possible that Savić will be in the starting line-up.
Diego Simeone spoke to Spanish journalists today about the "rivalry" of the two stoppers, but very diplomatically.
"Their rivalry is the same as the rivalry between Godin and Lukas. I repeat that I have four top players in the central part of the defense, and each of them has different characteristics. Those who I believe can best help the team at a certain moment play, and the competition for a place in to the team is very important both for those who play and for those who don't," said Simeone.
After the game against Real, Savić played 11 out of 13 matches in Primera.
Journalists were interested in why Niko Gaitan, an expensively paid reinforcement from Benfica, is not getting more minutes.
"He is very important for us, but those who contribute to the team play, not individual performance, play," said Simeone.
