Arsenal convincingly defeated Lisbon's Benfica 5:1 in the first round of the Emirates Cup tonight at their stadium.
The hero of the day was four-time scorer Jaja Sanogo, who shook the opponent's net in the 26th, 44th, 45th and 49th minutes, and Joel Campbell also scored a goal for the "gunners" in the 40th minute.
The scorer of the only goal in the match for Benfica was Nicolas Gaitan in the 62nd minute.
In today's first match of the Emirates Cup, Monaco and Valencia drew 2:2.
Wenger: We have the quality for the title
Arsene Wenger said today that his team has the quality to win the Premier League title, which the London side have been waiting 10 years for.
Last season, Arsenal won the first trophy after nine years after defeating Hull 3:2 in the final of the FA Cup, so the French expert believes that it will be a turning point.
"I think I went through the most sensitive period of my career. I wanted to keep the club at the top, but with significantly less investment. I was consistent with that, I think more quality was missing, but now we have it. Last season we were close, with only seven points less than Manchester City. The ambition is to get back to the top," Wenger told Sky Sports.
The London club brought in Alessis Sanchez from Barcelona, Calum Chambers from Southampton and Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle in this transfer window.
Wenger has been manager of the Gunners since 1996 and has won three Premier League titles, five FA Cups and four Community Shields.
During his career, he managed Nancy, Monaco and Nagoya.
