From the special reporter "Vijesti"
The mini-tour in Central Europe, the defeat by Slovakia and the draw with Iran, only confirmed what was known before - that the incomplete Montenegro does not have too much of a chance in a demanding and long competition such as the qualification for EURO 2016.
Young footballers - formally, members of big clubs from strong leagues - Đorđević (Zenit, Twente), Bakić (Fiorentina) and Vukčević (Braga) could fit into the national team, which has great ambitions, but only if they fight for the status of the first team , wherever they play next season. That's what Brnović told them after the match with Iran.
As for the footballers from the domestic championship, it is obvious that they do not know what a real competition is, that they do not do well in situations where it is necessary to play strong, fast and smart, with the fact that Janković hinted in the last 20 minutes against Iran that has potential, which, however, would have to be developed far from Grblje and Montenegro. In fact, what applies to Janković also applies to all candidates from the national championship...
What else did the two last tests before the qualifications show...
"We got Simic and Tomašević," said coach Brnović.
Simić really has the quality to compete for a place in the starting lineup, Tomašević can be counted on, and even the returning Balić, which actually means that the defense, with Baša and Savić as the central figures, is the most stable and part of the team with the most options.
"We did our best at this moment, we willingly compensated for the lack of quality, due to numerous resignations, so I think that the selector can still be satisfied. I believe that he has expanded the circle of candidates for the national team, it is up to him to decide which of us will to be part of the team in the future," said Saša Balić, the left back of the Ukrainian Metalurg from Zaporizhia.
"The boys did their best at this moment, they played according to their current capabilities, and I congratulate them on that," Brnović told them.
It is clear, however, that a lot of things would have to coincide in order for Montenegro to enter the race with Russia, Sweden and Austria, and for it to routinely win Moldova and Liechtenstein.
In the complete composition, with good tactical preparation and when everyone in and around the team is aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the Montenegrin team - maybe something more can be done than fighting for the first two positions in the group. Perhaps it can be taken a step further.
And what happens when only one cube of that mosaic is missing, we saw in the previous two competition cycles. Let's say, weakened we lost to England 4:1, unprepared to Ukraine 4:0, earlier to the Czech Republic 2:0, and tired and overbearing to Moldova 5:2.
And maybe now, on the eve of new challenges and new hope, it is unnecessary to put additional pressure, but it is clear that the upcoming qualifications are the last chance of the generation, with Vučinić, Baša, Drinčić, Bošković, Damjanović, Vlado and Mladen Božović, Poleksić, Pavićević... to found in a big competition. An uncertain future awaits the generation led by Jovetić and Savić...
