The executive director of the Football Association of Ireland, John Delaney, said today that by Saturday, it will be known whether the selection tandem, which will consist of Roy Keane and Martin O'Neill, will sit on the bench of the national team.
"We have had detailed discussions with Keane and O'Neill. I hope to be presented by the selection team by Saturday. I don't see any obstacle on the way to that," Delaney told British media.
Roy Keane has managed Sunderland and Ipswich in his coaching career so far. He played 67 games for the Irish national team and scored nine goals.
Martin O'Neill has so far sat on the bench for Norwich, Leicester, Celtic, Aston Villa and Sunderland.
Italy pundit Giovanni Trapattoni was sacked by the Football Association of Ireland in September following the failure to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
