David Villa left Barcelona after three years because he was no longer guaranteed a place in the attack next to the undisputed Lionel Messi and the upcoming megastar Neymar.
The Spaniard underwent medical examinations yesterday, and next week he will be presented at Atletico Madrid, which, he says, was the only option for him.
"I only wanted to go to Atletico. Coach Diego Simeone showed that he believed in me and that's why I want to repay him on the field," said Villa.
The former Valencia and Zaragoza striker then thanked Barca.
"Thank you to Barca for everything. Also, for not making it a problem for me to go to the club I wanted to," Vilja said.
