Italian coach Claudio Ranieri has taken over the bench of French second division Monaco, that club announced today on its official website.
The former coach of Chelsea, Juventus, Roma and Inter has signed a two-year contract and will replace compatriot Marco Simone in Monaco.
Monaco finished the previous season in eighth place in the Second Division.
The Italian media point out that Ranieri was a candidate for Fiorentina's coach, but that option failed the moment Daniele Prada became the Viola's sporting director.
