Srđan Radonjić: We were like a family

After four years of fasting, Buducnost saw moments of championship celebration. A point in Saturday's derby with Rudar pod Gorica (1:1) enabled Miodrag Radulović's team to secure the crown, the second in independent Montenegro (the first title was celebrated in 2008). With that, the "blue and white" rounded off a season in which they were leaders almost the whole time, and their dominance is confirmed by new records, for the number of consecutive victories (as many as ten), but also for the number of goals and points scored...

And the honor of scoring an important, what turned out to be decisive goal against Rudar went to Srđan Radonjić. The experienced point guard was rewarded for his complete, brilliant performance in a season in which he was probably the main driving force of the "blue and whites".

"Everything is still fresh, but of course we all already feel pleasant because of the fact that the title was won after four years. Everyone has been waiting for this moment for a long time - the club, the fans and Podgorica. When Miodrag Radulović arrived, he and Goran Perišić called me to return to Budućnost. I would like to thank coach Radulović and the entire professional staff, who had faith in me as a returnee.

I am also glad that I am a member of this young generation, as well as that the younger players gained experience that will be useful in their careers and life. We came with the goal of regaining the title and we succeeded in that after a lot of sweat. We achieved the goal, and we know how difficult it was," said Radonjić, who scored 14 goals in 32 first league games.

And the championship vision was hampered by a strong rival, says the former Partizan striker, a footballer who after 12 years returned to Budućnost...

"In Rudar we had a worthy rival who played good football all season long. I think, however, that we played better and that in the end we deservedly reached the goal, which is confirmed by the numbers and records... It is unfortunate, however, that Rudar he didn't crown the season even with a cup trophy," Radonjić praised the only competitor in the race for the championship cup.

Immediately after winning the title, Radulović attributed the glory and credit to his players, while Radonjić, when asked what was key in the championship season, praised the coaches.

"I think the key was in the professional staff, which encouraged us, was always with us footballers. That's the secret - Buducnost was like a family this year. I don't think that was the case in previous years. We had people from Podgorica with us " all for one, one for all", we overcame all difficulties in the best possible way - believes Radonjić.

The European competition should not be a trip

The championship celebration started on Saturday evening, but the celebratory atmosphere near Gorica and in the capital will last for several more days. And since the last derby with Rudar (just like the earlier matches against Zeta and Mladost) was played in a theatrical atmosphere, in front of empty stands, due to the penalty, the footballers of Budućnosti will share great joy with the "barbarians" and others on Wednesday against Lovcen, also under Gorica. to the fans. And after the celebration and rest comes a serious challenge - a European challenge in the Champions League qualifiers (the Montenegrin representative since last summer, the competition starts in the second round).

"The future should think in the direction of skipping one round and finding themselves at least in the third round of qualifications. The club is aware of that, and a lot of young players have established themselves in the past period. There is, however, interest in Adrović, Bošković, Radunović. "But - whoever leaves, there are adequate replacements, there are also in our league. They will not sit idly by in the club, they are thinking that the European competition will not be just a trip," Radonjić pointed out.

I have time to think about my future

Radonjić's one-year contract expires at the end of the season, but the seasoned point guard currently does not know whether he will wear the Budućnosti jersey next season. The goal scorer of the Podgorica team has already gathered enough experience outside the borders of Montenegro, and not only in the Partizan jersey. Radonjić once proved himself in Odense and Viborg (Denmark), Norwegian Start, Austrian Altah, Luč-Energia (Russia).

"There are some offers, we'll see, and I haven't talked to people from the club about extending the cooperation yet. I wouldn't talk too much about it now, I still have time to think about my future... The most important thing for all of us was to win the title, I didn't put personal performance The goal was the title, and I had a good season, everything came together. I had the best scorer in the league, Adrović, and Bošković next to me. The three of us scored over 50 goals, which is respectable. Younger attackers too Mugoša and Nikač contributed to everything, which is a big plus," said the 31-year-old point guard.
