Mali is in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations for only the second time.
The West African national team placed among the four best teams on the continent with a victory over Gabon after a better penalty shootout (5:4).
In the regular part it was 1:1, and Gabon led until the 84th minute when Mali won extra time with a goal by Bordeaux striker Cheik Diabate.
Gabon had previously taken the lead in the 55th through Mulungi.
Gabon's best player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the only one to miss in the penalty shootout.
Mali will meet Zambia in the semi-finals on Wednesday, which outclassed Sudan yesterday.
