The Russian Professional Footballers' Association (RSFT) has called for harsh punishments for Grozny's Terek after Krasnodar captain Spartak Gonjiev was beaten in the tunnel at the Chechen club's stadium.

"The captain of Krasnodar was sent off on Friday in the match between the reserve teams of Terek and Krasnodar, and he was met in the tunnel by a group of men dressed in police uniforms. They caught him and dragged him aside where they beat him with sticks. This violent act took place in the presence of two vice-presidents of Terek, one of whom is the minister of sports in Chechnya. A medical examination revealed that Gonjijev had several broken ribs and a nose, and he also suffered a concussion," the RSFT press release said.
Terek denies guilt and states that Gonjiev provoked the local fans.
"The truth is that I pushed the referee away and that's why I was sent off. I reacted inappropriately, but I didn't say anything to the fans or anyone else in the stadium," said Gonjiev.
