Dinamo Zagreb is in the Champions League, for the first time after 12 years of suffering in which there were painful eliminations.
And even this time, when it seemed that the path to the elite could not be easier for Dinamo, the "blues" could not help directing a thriller - Malmo won the second leg with 2:0, but it was not enough to "delete" that triumph of Zagreb with "Maksimir" (4:1).
The Croatian champion survived the hell in Scandinavia, because from the 50th minute he played with one less player (Vrsaljko was sent off), and Malmo had a chance to go through in the 92nd minute, but Larsson's volley was saved by Kelav, the absolute hero of Zdravko Mamić...
Earlier, free-kick goals from Figuiredo and Jansson gave Malmo hope. Fatos Bećiraj was replaced in the 57th minute.
"Horror in Malmö, only Dinamo can do this," Croatian media wrote a few minutes after Dinamo opened the door to the Champions League.
Bayern and Villarreal did not allow anything similar - the Bavarians also celebrated in Zurich (1:0, goal by Mario Gomes), while the Spanish representative ran over modest Odense in the second half. He had to work on Giuseppe Rossi (double scorer), and Carlos Marćena removed any dilemma on "Madrigal".
Genk came out as the winner in a big clash with Maccabi from Haifa - the Belgians celebrated after a better penalty shootout (both matches ended with a score of 2:1).
APOEL also qualified for the Champions League thanks to Ailton's goal three minutes before the end (3:1). Until that moment, the Polish Vistula had a ticket to the elite in their pocket...
