Radamel Falcao (25) became one of the most expensive players this summer - Atletico Madrid paid Porto 40 million euros for this transfer in the name of compensation. It is, in any case, a record transfer for Porto and for Portuguese football in general.
Before that, the biggest transfer from Portuguese football was the transfer of Sima Sabrosa from Benfica also to Atletico Madrid for 20 million euros.
Porto announced that the amount of compensation could reach the sum of 47 million euros, depending on various factors, but did not explain what it was about.
Yesterday, the Porto striker, whose nickname is Tigar, signed a five-year contract.
"Porto made it possible for me to come to Europe, and everything could not have turned out better. At this moment, I feel very grateful to everyone in Porto for an unforgettable experience," Falcao said on his official website.
The Colombian forward was Porto's most important player last season. He scored 34 goals and helped the team win four trophies, including the championship title, which he achieved after a 30-match unbeaten run.
In 2009, Porto paid the Argentine River Plata 3.930.000 euros for him.
Falcao will replace Sergio Aguero, who moved to Manchester City, in Atlético's attack.
The Portuguese club announced that it is also selling Portuguese player Ruben Mikael to Atlético for five million euros.
