Although Bulgaria practically said goodbye to the European Championship with a draw with Switzerland, Lotar Mateus believes that his team has a bright future.
- I want to pay a big compliment to my team, even though we didn't manage to win. We played excellently for the first 60 or 70 minutes, it was our best performance since I was the coach - said the legendary German, who took charge of Bulgaria after defeats against England and Montenegro.
Mateus points out that only goals were missing.
- We controlled the situation on the field, created chances, and the only thing we failed to do was score a goal. We deserved to win.
After the victory in Wales (2:0), England joined Montenegro at the top of Group G with 10 points. The Bulgarians and the Swiss have four each and it is clear that it will be very difficult for them to reach the "brave falcons" and Gordy Albion.
Mateus, however, does not worry about that.
- Many young players were in the team against Switzerland and I think they have a bright future. Unfortunately, we have little time to work together, but I am optimistic and know that we can do a lot if we continue on this path. I am motivated and I want to remain the coach of Bulgaria for as long as possible - concluded the man who won the world championship with Germany.
