From today, the Montenegrin national football team thinks only of England, the injustice in Sofia has been forgotten, claims midfielder Mirko Ivanić.
"Football doesn't know about yesterday, now it's England's turn. We have a great motive to prove ourselves against the English, regardless of the fact that we are disappointed with the result in Sofia. We have no right to make excuses," said the Red Star midfielder.
Ivanić had two chances - at 0:0 and 1:0.
"I didn't score a goal and what can I say? I had two good chances, I'm sorry that I didn't score. First of all, I'm sorry that we didn't win. If we had, everything would have been different," Ivanić pointed out.
The Bulgarians had nothing to surprise Montenegro.
"We played weaker in the first half, the second was better. I don't know the reason, but against England we have to be more confident from the start, the mistakes must not be repeated. Where is our chance? In the motive, the fans and the great desire to prove ourselves against big national teams".
He also commented on the non-existent penalty with which Bulgaria achieved a draw.
"Anyone who looked at the situation could conclude what it was about. If we had won, we would have tolerated the referee's mistake more easily, everything is different this way. I can only say - shame. We are also to blame, if we scored the second goal earlier... In this way, that referee's mistake was a kind of punishment for our failures," says Ivanić.
England come in top form.
"We knew even before the start of the qualifiers that England was the first favorite and it is no surprise that they showed their strength at the start and defeated the Czech Republic. I believe that we will fight for second place and every point is important. That is why it remains a pity that we lost in Sofia two. But we can't turn back time, and a draw against Albion would be good," Ivanić concluded.
